Pol Mara (1920–1998)
Curriculum Vitae, 1980
Eight-color lithography
30.5 x 24.5 cm
Numbered 52/100
Hand-signed in pencil
This lithography Curriculum Vitae from December 1980 belongs to Pol Mara's graphic oeuvre and was realized on commission for J.C. Breugelmans. The work sits within the series of exclusive New Year’s editions in which leading Belgian artists developed an autonomous graphic creation in a limited edition.
Description
This is an eight-color lithograph, printed on heavy Arches velin paper (250 g/m²) with rough edges. The edition consisted of 150 copies; this copy is numbered 52/100 and hand-signed by the artist in pencil in the bottom right.
The depiction shows a characteristic female figure, built from layered transparencies and subtle color fields in blue and ochre tones. The combination of figuration and dreamy atmospheric accents is typical of Mara’s iconography from this period, in which sensuality, introspection, and a poetic visual language are central.
The work was printed at the Lithographic Atelier De Schutter N.V., Antwerp, which guarantees the technical quality and durability of the print.
Collectible value
Pol Mara is regarded as one of the leading Belgian figurative artists of the second half of the 20th century. His limited-edition graphics, particularly early and signed copies like this, continue to attract the interest of collectors of Belgian modern art. Owing to the combination of a low edition size, the signature, a professional studio print, and its provenance as a special commission edition, this print constitutes a desirable and collectible object within his graphic oeuvre.
The work is in good condition, with undamaged paper and intact edges.
