Description from the seller
Pol Mara (1920–1998)
Untitled, 1988
Screen print in 14 colors on Velin d’Arches (300 g/m²)
31 x 26 cm
Edition: 29/100
Signed bottom right in pencil.
Printed by Beha Screen, Ekeren
Dated: Antwerp, 7 December 1988
This refined and colorful silkscreen by Pol Mara from 1988 is a characteristic example of his iconic visual language, in which female figures, media images, and subtle estrangement come together. The composition features an elegant female figure in a cinematographic setting, built from warm ochre tones and contrasting greens, with a layered, lightly disorienting visual space that is characteristic of Mara’s oeuvre from the 1980s.
The work was produced as a screen print in no less than 14 colors on high-quality velin d’Arches paper (300 g/m²), which ensures rich color intensity and durability. The edition consisted of 100 copies; this is number 29/100, hand-signed in pencil by the artist.
Pol Mara enjoyed both national and international recognition and represented Belgium, among other venues, at the Venice Biennale (1966). Graphic works from his mature period—especially in a limited, numbered edition and in good condition—are increasingly valued within the market for Belgian postwar art.
An appealing and collectible print by a leading Belgian artist, of interest to both collectors of modern Belgian graphic art and enthusiasts of figurative art from the second half of the 20th century.
Condition: in good condition, with intact edges and fresh colors (see photos).
