Otto Lais, Vagabunden, a limited edition etching from Germany (1926), hand-signed, in good condition, framed and sold by Galerie, with frame dimensions 44 x 37 cm.
Description from the seller
Otto Lais was a German artist whose body of work developed during a period marked by major social and artistic changes. Born in 1904, he belonged to a generation of artists who directly experienced the impact of both the Weimar era and the turbulent decades that followed. His work shows a strong connection to figurative art traditions, while at the same time he remained open to stylistic innovations that broke through in the first half of the 20th century.
In this expressive etching, Otto Lais presents a dynamic and satirical scene in which a handcart, heavily loaded with a group of grotesquely characterized figures, is being pulled by a gaunt, almost skeletal man. The cart stands high on its wheels and tilts dangerously backward due to the wild behavior of its occupants. The characters on the cart have exaggerated facial features and theatrical poses, giving the scene a strongly humorous yet unsettling undertone.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 44 x 37 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 30 x 23 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year. Furthermore we use restorers from the industry association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would be happy to hear.
