Description from the seller
Louis Nagelkerke (Eindhoven, February 3, 1949) has been working as a professional artist since 1980. Louis is a versatile artist who is never without inspiration or new ideas. Movement, beauty, and mysticism are characteristics of his artworks. He is especially inspired by life in the Indonesian archipelago and is fascinated by the mystery of its inhabitants, both people and animals. His inspiration often concerns the Eastern human being. Musicians, dancers, and female dancers, in particular the people of the beautiful island Bali. People from the theater are also often his models. The subjects for his work are as varied and rich as life itself. But always returning is his love for Eastern culture and religion, music, and dance. Louis Nagelkerke is best known for his very realistic depictions of people, “bringing out the beauty in humans and animals.” That is the artist’s creed, wishing to make the world more beautiful with his paintings. He is able to accurately capture the essence of a subject in posture and mood.
This work features two expressive portrait studies. The upper pose exudes stillness and dreaminess. The lower pose is more intimate and calmer: the woman holds a hand to her face while seeming lost in thought.
Dimensions of the work with frame: 101 x 79 cm
Dimensions of the work without frame: 70 x 50 cm
