Description from the seller
Classical lady
Gerti Bierenbroodspot lets herself be strongly inspired in her work by the archaeological world and the ancient antiquity. She explores forms, postures, and clothing from old cultures and translates them into her own artistic style. In doing so, she combines historical elements with modern expression, causing her work to bridge the gap between past and present.
Her figures, as in A Woman from Greek Times, reflect the elegance and symbolism of the classical world, but receive a fresh, contemporary interpretation.
Bierenbroodspot trained at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam and the Instituut Opleiding tot Tekenleraren, also based there. She began painting in her uncle Leo Gestel’s old studio in Huizenhoogt, who died in 1941. She works as a painter, draftsman, etcher, and sculptor, and also designs gobelins and writes poems. Works by Bierenbroodspot have been exhibited in various places in the Netherlands. Outside the Netherlands she has exhibited in Brussels, New York, Amman and Beirut.
Dimensions of work with frame: 107 x 79 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 81 x 55 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house picture-framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year.
