AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Very special etching by Bauer - three images on one etching. Very detailed.

Marius Bauer (1867- 1932)

Painter Marius Bauer was, in addition to painting, also a watercolorist, graphic artist, and draughtsman. He trained at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. He also lived and worked in several countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe, which is well reflected in his work. Marius Bauer is also regarded as the Netherlands' most important Orientalist; he frequently traveled to Asia, Africa, and Russia. There he made sketches that he used at home for his paintings. In his own time, Bauer was a well-known artist; he was even compared with the master painter Rembrandt for his loose and fluent way of working in both his etchings and watercolors. Today there is renewed attention to Orientalism, and with it to the oeuvre of Marius Bauer.
