Description from the seller
Oiseau-Soleil combines two recurring motifs in Corneille's work: the bird and the sun. The bird is often seen as a symbol of freedom and movement, while the sun radiates warmth, light and life energy. Through the use of bright colors and a simplified, almost childlike design, a cheerful, dreamy composition emerges. The work fits Corneille's CoBrA background, in which spontaneity and intuition are more important than realism.
Corneille (1922–2010) was co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator within post-war art. His work developed from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful screen print is a fine example of his later style.
Dimensions of the work without frame: 46 x 37 cm
