This portrait began as a study in restraint. I wanted the expression to feel distant and unreadable, balanced between elegance and fatigue. The muted greens and greys were chosen to keep the focus on the structure of the face and the tension in the gaze, borrowing something from old master portraiture while allowing the brushwork to remain visible and alive.
