Description from the seller

“The Berry Picker”

The painting is based on the relationship between the human figure and the surrounding plant mass. The woman, depicted with her back turned as she picks berries, becomes the visual center of the scene. The light body emerges strongly from the darker, more agitated background, creating an immediate contrast that draws the eye.

The composition is simple yet balanced: the verticality of the figure provides stability to the image, while the arm reaching toward the shrub introduces a diagonal line that suggests movement and directs attention to the act of gathering.

From a painterly point of view, there is a discernible distinction between the two main elements: the figure is modeled with softer transitions, while the vegetation is built with freer, more fragmented brushstrokes, conveying the sensation of a living, dynamic environment.

Light plays an important role as it illuminates the figure’s back and shoulders, isolating her from the natural context. This helps create an intimate and silent atmosphere, where the simple gesture of berry gathering takes on a nearly contemplative value: the figure appears immersed in nature yet at the same time distinct from it.

A work suitable for modern interiors as well as traditional classical spaces

Artist’s Statement:

«My painting arises from the desire to give form to what moves behind the depicted image. I believe art is also a bridge between the memory of tradition and the needs of the present: for this reason I strive to paint with dialoguing references, questioning the present.»
