Michael John Hunt is mainly known for his still lifes, which often depict intimate interiors, in both stately and more rustic atmospheres. Just as with the Dutch masters, the surfaces in his paintings are worked out very finely, making his technical skill visible in realistic lighting effects such as shadows and reflections.
