Josef Ebnöther, lithograph on handmade paper. Published by Galerie Depelmann in the series "the small format." Printed and signed, as well as hand-signed and limited. With a special 2.2 mm passe-partout (mat) sized to 38 x 38 cm.
The artist was born in 1937 in Altstätten. After an apprenticeship as a calligrapher and painter, he attended the St. Gallen School of Applied Arts. After numerous further trainings, he began his career as a freelance artist in 1965. In his early work, Ebnöther painted figurative or cubist portraits and still lifes, figure drawings and paintings, as well as early representational landscapes, for example of the beloved Schollenriet in his homeland. Later, the images in Ebnöther’s work became increasingly formally reduced and abstracted into color-intensive planes. Ebnöther has participated in various international art fairs and received awards and honors early in his artistic career. Several films about the artist were produced, including “Heaven and Earth and Everything in Between” from 2017.
