Description from the seller
In Corneille's work, birds often appear as powerful symbols of freedom, movement, and imagination. A crow has a special role: because of its dark color and sleek form it often stands for mystery, power, or the unknown. Corneille combines the crow with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal at once threatening and poetic. This fits with his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive visual language are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator within postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women, and flowers. This colorful screen print is a fine example of his later style.
Viewings available. We have our own framing shop (celebrating its 85th anniversary) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
