Description from the seller
In Corneille's work, birds often appear as powerful symbols of freedom, movement and imagination. A crow has a special role: through its dark color and clean form it often stands for mystery, strength or the unknown. Corneille combines the crow with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal appear at once threatening and poetic. This fits with his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive visual language are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator in postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful silkscreen is a fine example of his later style.
Dimensions of work with frame: 82 x 82 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 65 x 66 cm
Framed work.
Viewings possible. We have our own framing workshop (85-year anniversary) and work together with certifed restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
