VITA LAJOS d’ÉBNETH

Born 1902 in Szilágysomlyó (today Șimleu Silvaniei, Romania); died 1982 in Lima.
Studied fine arts and architecture in Budapest. In 1922 pupil of Franz Stuck in Munich. 1923 moved to Berlin and connected with the art scene around László Moholy-Nagy and Herwarth Walden's gallery "Der Sturm". Turn toward constructivist abstract painting with close contacts, among others, to the movements of the Dadaists, Constructivists and De Stijl. Intense contact with Kurt Schwitters. From 1925 diverse paintings, reliefs, collages, typographic designs, advertisements, a mechanical puppet theater and architectural designs.

Exhibitions at the gallery "Der Sturm". 1926 co-editor of the art journal Het Woord, 1927 graphic design designs (magazine i10). Member of the Berlin group "Die Abstrakten". 1927 invitation from Walter Gropius to the Bauhaus Dessau. 1929 exhibition "Film und Foto" by the German Werkbund Stuttgart. From 1935 creation of expressionist figurative paintings and increased work on sculptures. 1947 several exhibitions of his sculptures in the USA. 1949 relocation to Peru. 1982 died in Chaclacayo, Lima
