Description from the seller
Work by Guillaume Corneille
It is a typical piece by the artist Corneille. In this kind of work he often shows people, animals and birds together in a colorful, imaginative world.
Corneille used bright colors, simple shapes and clear lines in his art, making the work feel playful and lively. The couple in the painting can be seen as a symbol of connection and love, while the birds reinforce the sense of freedom and movement.
Corneille (1922-2010) was a painter and graphic artist who radicalized the conservative Dutch art world in the early 1950s. Together with five other influential artists, including Karel Appel and Constant, he helped found the post-war European expressionist movement CoBrA in 1948. Corneille studied drawing and etching at the Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam between 1940 and 1942, but is generally regarded as an autodidactic painter. Initially strongly influenced by Picasso, Corneille produced abstract work. From the late 1960s his work acquired a more figurative character. In this work birds, women and flowers are often the subject.
Dimensions of the work: 30 x 22 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year.
