A crow plays a special role: due to its dark color and clean, streamlined form, it often stands for mystery, power, or the unknown. Corneille combines the crow with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal at once threatening and poetic. This fits with his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive visual language are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator within postwar art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women, and flowers. This colorful silkscreen is a fine example of his later style.
