Devon (1993), United Kingdom, presents Bifurcated Field, an original 2026 painting executed in acrylic, gouache and mixed media, measuring 41 by 30 cm, signed by the artist, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Bifurcated Field (2026) develops Devon’s ongoing investigation into abstraction as a system of internal logic, here articulated through a composition structured around division and adjacency. The canvas is organised into two distinct yet permeable zones, each operating with its own chromatic and formal language.
Executed in acrylic, gouache, and mixed media, the work juxtaposes areas of saturated blue and ochre-toned grounds, within which forms emerge as discrete yet relational units. These elements, rounded, irregular, and at times outlined, suggest a vocabulary of signs without stabilising into a coherent syntax.
The compositional split does not function as a fixed boundary but rather as a site of negotiation, where forms appear to migrate, echo, or resist across the divide. This produces a spatial ambiguity that destabilises the viewer’s reading, situating the work between diagrammatic structure and intuitive gesture.
Materially, the painting foregrounds surface as an active field. Layers are applied with varying degrees of opacity and pressure, allowing traces of process to remain visible. This insistence on surface reinforces the tension between construction and contingency that runs throughout Devon’s practice.
In Bifurcated Field, abstraction is not treated as reduction but as a means of structuring perception itself, where meaning is deferred and continually reconfigured through the act of viewing.
