DESCRIPTION :

The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:

"There is a great deal of poetry in this painting, as in all of the artist's works. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In that sense, the pictorial poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childlike chant... But the most astonishing thing manifested in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."

In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms emerge and transform as the gesture flows, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.

The image forms through superposition; elements seem to float, respond to each other, interlace, creating a living and open visual space.

The title (here: 'Le soi-disant') is usually added afterward. It is meant to hint at a thread, a narrative, poetic, or sometimes simply humorous dimension, never confining the image to a single interpretation.

An expressive work that immediately captivates the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.

BIOGRAPHY :

Ralf Altrieth (Heilbronn, 1966) is a German-born painter and musician. Trained in his teens by painter Georg Schaible and then at the Nürtingen School of Fine Arts in the late 1980s, he has exhibited in France and Germany, notably at Hartmut Beck Gallery (Erlangen), MAC Paris and Galerie Théo de Seine (Paris). He lives and works today in the south of France.
