Robert Capa covered the Allied invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky) in July 1943, documenting the arrival of American troops in Palermo. His images captured the formal surrender of Italian General Giuseppe Molinero and life in the city, portraying the entry of the Americans. The mentioned photograph was acquired in the United States, from a private collection. Robert Capa, pseudonym of Endre Ernő Friedmann (Budapest, Hungary, October 22, 1913—Thai Binh, Vietnam, May 25, 1954), was a Hungarian war correspondent and photojournalist of the 20th century. He left Hungary at the age of 17. He traveled around the world in search of the best snapshots for his camera. This took him to Mexico, Italy, France, Japan, Indochina, Vietnam, Israel, England, or North Africa.
