Description from the seller
Alberto Manfredi (Reggio Emilia, 1930-2001), Trasparenze, 1982, double work realized in mixed technique (on two loose sheet supports that are joined and superimposed: on top, a transparent drawing-cover sheet, and underneath a handmade paper sheet) about 35x50 cm opened like a book (about 35x25 cm each element), signed and dated bottom right, on the back of the paper sheet stamped years '70 of the old Galleria d'Arte Pier Della Francesca, Arezzo.
Exhibitions: Alberto Manfredi, solo show, 1983, Galleria d'Arte Pier Della Francesca, Arezzo.
Documentation: Authenticity Certificate from Galleria d'Arte Piero Della Francesca, Arezzo. Condition excellent: no damage, no restoration, slight homogeneous patina, no frame.
Very distinctive work by Alberto Manfredi (Reggio Emilia, 1930-2001), painter and engraver of great refinement, who was for a long time professor of Techniques of Engraving at the Academy of Florence. His deep literary culture - formed also in Bologna beside Giorgio Morandi - contributed to the success of his works among writers such as Sciascia and Bufalino and directed him toward the livre d’artiste, with over one hundred illustrated editions. A rigorous engraver and far from fashions, rooted in the tradition from Degas to De Pisis, he applied the same sober language also to painting. He exhibited in numerous solo shows in Italy and abroad, culminating in the great retrospective at Palazzo Magnani shortly before his death. Works by Alberto Manfredi are found in prestigious museum and private collections. He is remembered as one of the most beloved artists of his generation, on par with Maccari, with whom he was close friends, and with whom he shared the love for printmaking and Morandi, with whom he had a long and fruitful cultural exchange.
Our Gallery has collaborated directly with Maestro Alberto Manfredi from 1969 until 2001 (year of his passing) organizing 2 solo exhibitions of the artist (the first, in 1979, the second in 1983). Manfredi, moreover, took part in various our group exhibitions and reviews, and we published a fine aquaforte engraving by him.
