Textured acrylic on heavyweight Fabriano-type paper (Murillo)
Jo Novecento – Painter, Sculptor, Stylist, born in the Abruzzo region, Teramo, Italy in 1956
In the 1980s and 1990s he worked with prominent figures of the Roman school of San Lorenzo, which stood in opposition to Transavanguardia. Constantly involved in fashion as well, with the production of models for tailored clothing for important houses. In those years he also dedicated himself to music, performing at events organized with the band Le Stelle di Schifano.
Existentialist artist, he studies and deepens the abstract expressionism of the first half of the 20th century; the support becomes a field of gestural action, yet measured, vital in the explosion of the wide palette. The compositions diverge from academic classicism, are non-figurative, and allow intimate, non-mediated enjoyment. Ecstasy and tragedy are in balance.
