Devon (1993) presents Constrained Field, an original 2026 painting in acrylic, gouache and mixed media, signed by the artist, measuring 30 cm by 41 cm, originating from the United Kingdom, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Constrained Field (2026) advances Devon’s investigation into abstraction as a relational system, here articulated through a composition stabilised by a dominant chromatic ground. The saturated blue field operates not as background but as an active spatial condition within which forms are suspended and negotiated.
Executed in acrylic, gouache, and mixed media, the painting presents a constellation of irregular, biomorphic shapes that appear both discrete and interdependent. These forms, at times outlined or softly embedded, resist hierarchical organisation, instead generating a distributed visual logic across the surface.
Unlike earlier works that emphasise division or fragmentation, Contained Field proposes a more cohesive spatial structure. The composition holds tension through proximity, overlap, and contrast, rather than through explicit separation. This produces a sense of equilibrium that remains provisional rather than resolved.
Materially, the work foregrounds the interaction between flat colour and gestural mark-making. Edges fluctuate between clarity and dissolution, reinforcing the instability of boundaries and the permeability of the pictorial space.
In this context, the painting functions less as a diagram and more as a field of relations, where meaning emerges through adjacency and repetition rather than fixed reference.
