Description from the seller
Main features of the work:
• Mimmo Germanà (1944–1992) • “Bagnante” • Oil on canvas • 50×80 cm, 68×98 cm with frame • Signature, title and year on the back • Work registered with no. 030313790 at the Mimmo Germanà General Archive, as per certificate with photograph • Provenance: Artist’s studio.
The work belongs to the Transavanguardia current. Style: Expressionism.
A protagonist of the Italian Transavanguardia era, alongside Chia, Clemente, Cucchi, De Maria and Paladino, Mimmo Germanà here realizes an iconic and rare beauty “Bagnante,” of great visual strength, in a substantial format, 50×80 cm, which reaches almost one meter in width with the frame.
The work is built with direct and physical painting: dense, rapid brushstrokes, rich in material. The colors – oranges, blues and greens – are laid on with clear contrasts and give the piece immediate energy, typical and recognizable of his language.
The work was created in 1990, at the height of Germanà’s most recognizable expressive phase.
The light, cassette-style wooden frame with a clean, contemporary design decisively enhances the work and amplifies its presence.
The 2013 registration at the Mimmo Germanà General Archive, with a photographic certificate, guarantees authentic provenance. The documented Studio provenance from the artist’s studio is a rare and highly valuable element for collectors, as it attests to a direct and qualified origin of the work.
Mimmo Germanà, born in Catania in 1944 and who passed away in 1992, was among the protagonists of the Transavanguardia era. In recent years his works have attracted growing market interest, with a positive trend in prices and investments. Participation in the Venice Biennale in 1982 and in major international exhibitions further strengthens his profile and the strength of his collection.
The buyer will receive the work in careful and sturdy packaging. Very rapid shipping. Free pickup available in Monza/Milan.
