Description from the seller
Edmond Van Dooren (1896–1965) – “Old City” – Signed and dedicated woodcut (1938)
Magnificent and authentic woodcut (or linocut) by the Belgian artist Edmond Van Dooren (1896–1965), featuring an expressive architectural composition entitled “Old City.”
This work is a fine example of Van Dooren’s distinctive graphical style, with strong contrasts and a dynamic, almost surreal cityscape.
Details:
Title: Old City
Technique: woodcut / linocut
Hand-signed in pencil by the artist
Numbered: 13/150
Dating: 1938
With the original personal dedication on the reverse:
“To Marie 7-11-38”, also signed
The presence of a dated dedication makes this work particularly interesting and clearly situates it in an earlier period of the artist, which adds extra historical and personal value.
The work is framed.
