Description from the seller
Lucebert, born Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk in Amsterdam, was a leading Dutch poet, painter and graphic artist. He was a central figure within the Vijftigers and closely connected with the COBRA movement.
His visual work is characterized by expressive, often mythic figures, spontaneous lines and vivid colors, while his poetry emphasizes freedom, vulnerability and defiance of convention. The famous motto “Alles van waarde is weerloos” succinctly captures his view. Lucebert received several awards and his work is represented in museums such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists and poets of postwar Netherlands.
In this ink drawing he depicts a 'cruel judge'. The work is signed and dated.
