Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, rose to prominence in 2009 with his sculptures One Dollar, ranking that same year among the top ten sculptors under 30 according to Artprice. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh named him one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its book FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, at the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly congratulated Karl on his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture, One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl’s artistic journey began at the age of 7 with collages, inspired by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He then turned to tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro while remaining passionate about collages. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with his collages. In 2003, Karl prepared his first exhibition in Paris, which led to his first solo show in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008, he returned to Paris with an exhibition combining paintings, sculptures, and video elements at the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl particularly enjoys unveiling his works at international exhibitions. In 2011, he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art gallery at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year, he presented his works One Dollar on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo exhibition at the Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his works in front of the international press.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world equestrian championship in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012, he offered Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the city’s entrance. That same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he built a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival, using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist rose in notoriety in 2009 with his sculptural works “One Dollar,” which earned him a place among Artprice’s top ten sculptors under 30.

In 2017, he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Drawing from “Cryptogramme One,” he created a trophy cast in aluminum with a polished mirror finish, displaying messages such as “Hope,” “7e Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse received a commission to create a new trophy, inspired by an emblematic symbol of Deauville: the drawing of the barriers that separate the deckchairs on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati covered in white plastic and a Jesus statue surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled at the Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017, he created the Trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, drawing from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” on the trophies.
