Description from the seller
"The Berry Picker"
The painting rests on the relationship between the human figure and the surrounding vegetal mass. The woman, depicted with her back turned as she gathers berries, becomes the visual focal point of the scene. The light skin tone of the body stands out boldly against the darker, more unsettled background, creating an immediate contrast that draws the eye.
The composition is simple yet balanced: the verticality of the body gives stability to the image, while the arm reaching toward the shrub introduces a diagonal line that suggests movement and directs attention to the act of gathering.
From a painterly point of view, there is a discernible distinction between the two main elements: the figure is modeled with smoother transitions, while the vegetation is built with looser, more fragmented brushstrokes, conveying the sense of a living, dynamic environment.
Light plays an important role because it illuminates the figure’s back and shoulders, isolating her from the natural context. This helps to create an intimate, quiet atmosphere, where the simple gesture of gathering berries takes on a nearly contemplative value: the figure appears immersed in nature but at the same time set apart from it.
Suitable for both modern spaces and traditional classic environments
Artist’s statement:
«My painting arises from the desire to give form to what moves behind the depicted image. I believe art is also a bridge between the memory of tradition and the needs of the present: this is why I strive to paint with dialoguing references, questioning myself about the present.»
