Description from the seller
Three Arita-yaki (Arita ware) porcelain bowls from Japan, characterized by their refined decoration. Produced in or near Arita, Saga Prefecture, a region known for its 400-year-old porcelain tradition. These bowls display akae (red overglaze colors) or sometsuke (underglaze blue) techniques, typical for this ware. The porcelain is renowned for being very white, light, and thin, sometimes even translucent. Arita ware has been exported to Europe since the 17th century through the Port of Imari by the Dutch VOC. One of the bowls unfortunately has a small chip on the rim, as clearly shown in the pictures. The others are in perfect condition.
