Description from the seller
I. Arias is a contemporary artist whose painting practice centers on exploring the human figure with an introspective and symbolic sensibility, with a particular focus on oil underwater painting. Her work has transcended the local sphere, forming part of exhibitions and events in different international contexts, with a presence in countries such as Spain, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, Mexico, as well as in various cities across the United States.
Over the course of her career, she has been recognized with awards and distinctions that support the solidity of her artistic proposal and her commitment to a coherent visual language that is in constant evolution. Her work sits at a convergence between the technical and the emotional, constructing images that address the human condition from an intimate perspective, where the body and the environment become vehicles of meaning.
In the work “Verano,” we are presented with a scene that, beyond its apparent stillness, functions as an intense evocation of the sensory experience inherent to the season. Executed in oil on canvas, the painting captures a submerged human figure, resting on the aquatic bed, in a state of suspension where time seems to dissolve. What really articulates the image is the pictorial construction of light and the movement of the water. The upper surface becomes a vibrant field of distortions: blues, turquoise, and greens intertwine with warm accents — oranges and golds — that suggest sunlight filtering through and fragmenting. This layer acts as a perceptual boundary more than a physical one, where reality breaks down into unstable, almost abstract reflections.
The body, treated according to a logic of blot and gesture, integrates with the surroundings rather than imposing itself upon them. The brushstrokes follow the direction of the water flow, generating a sense of continuity between figure and medium. There is no rigidity or closed contour; everything seems to fluctuate, as if the pictorial matter itself responds to the same liquid condition it represents. The anatomy appears solid yet permeable, affected by refraction, by the vibration of light, by the rhythm of the water.
In this context, the work does not focus on action, but on lived experience: rest, contact with the water, the altered perception of the surroundings. Verano is built as an emotional record where the body becomes synchronized with the climate, with the temperature, with that characteristic pause in which the external loses intensity and the sensory takes center stage.
More than narrating a moment, the painting condenses an atmosphere. It is an image where summer is not described but felt: in the filtered warmth, in the softness of movement, in the way light and water transform reality into an enveloping and deeply intimate experience.
