André Bufi (1922-2017) - Village méditerranéen

Bernard Dufour sometimes used the pseudonym André Bufi.
An agronomist by training, he devoted himself to painting after World War II. He first produced an abstract body of work before turning to figuration in the 1960s. He then painted numerous self-portraits and portraits of family members and nudes that shocked with their eroticism. In the 1960s and 1970s, he lived in Spain, a period during which he became very famous for his paintings of Mediterranean towns.
Painter of the intimate, close to Jean Genet, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Claude Ollier and Pierre Guyotat, one can see his canvases in Jacques Rivette’s film La Belle Noiseuse. He also appeared in the documentary Mise à nu by Corinne Espagno.
Currently, Dufour’s work is a collectible piece worldwide.
