Spring landscape is a work by the celebrated German artist Martha Voss, who lived from 1869 to 1935. The painting, titled Vorfrühling auf dem Darß, or Early Spring on the Darß, masterfully captures the sparse atmosphere and vivid colors of the Darß peninsula, a beautiful natural region facing the Baltic Sea that was a favorite destination for many landscape painters of the era.
The birch trees in the foreground, softly reflected on the tranquil water, create a balanced composition with a lyric breadth typical of Northern European Post-Impressionism. On the reverse there are fascinating historical elements attesting to its authenticity and period, including a cursive archival signature reading Original, an old stamp of the paint factory and art supplier A. Langle & Co. of Burgdorf, and old pencil notes with the price of the time.
The period frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, due to its fragility, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not noted and any damage to it during transit will not be considered for claims or returns.
Shipping and customs notes
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs clearance procedures.
Also note that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs charges are the sole responsibility of the buyer and will be charged by the authorities in your country upon delivery.
I recommend checking in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the option, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate transportation costs and ensure maximum security for the artwork. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to pack the painting to protect it during the journey.
