Aart Klein (1909), Dutch photographer.
Amstel, 1961 printed by himself and sent to friends as a New Year’s greeting in 1996.
Silver gelatin print, high gloss.
Edition unknown.
From the Caspari de Geus collection, to whom Aart Klein and his wife Johanna sent the photo.
Condition: excellent.
Aart Klein was a member of the GKf (Federation of Bound Artists). He is regarded as the great aesthete of postwar photography, known for his high-contrast black-and-white prints. He always printed his photographs himself. When taking pictures he had endless patience and waited for the right moment. He lived with his wife on the Amstel.
Caspari de Geus was one of his students at the School for Graphic Arts, where in the early sixties he taught one day a week.
