Description from the seller
Walker’s Nautical Slider "Cherub III" – Solid Brass – England c. 1945-55
A extraordinary historical navigation instrument is for sale: an original ship-log (Ship-Log) by the prestigious British firm Thomas Walker & Son Ltd. It is the iconic Cherub Mark III model, manufactured in Birmingham in the mid-20th century.
This device was responsible for measuring distance traveled and the ship's speed through a precision mechanical system.
DETAILS OF THE REGISTRATOR (Main Body):
Solid brass piece with an exceptional natural patina that certifies its age. It has not been polished to preserve its collectible value.
Authenticity marks: Includes the anchor logo (Trade Mark T.W.) and the historic manufacturer's address: 58, Oxford St. Birmingham.
Serial Number: AM 3310 (punch-engraved).
Dial: White ceramic in perfect condition, protected by the original glass. Includes 100-mile principal dial and two secondary dials for hundreds and units.
Technical inscriptions: Retains all maintenance instructions engraved ("Use Walker's Solidified Oil").
Condition: The exterior mechanism turns and the brass tilting support is operable. Mounted on a display wooden base.
DETAILS OF THE ROTOR (Propeller):
Includes a 4-blade brass rotor with hydrodynamic design.
Transparency note: This rotor shows no visible manufacturer marks or serial numbers. Therefore, although it is the technically compatible model for the Mark III system, it cannot be determined whether it is from the same era or manufacturer as the registrator. Aesthetically it shows a patina and wear very similar to the main body.
