John Everard was a British portrait, fashion, stage, and studio photographer best known for his female nude studies from the late 1920s through the early 1960s. A First World War veteran (Military Cross) and former rubber planter, he was largely self-taught and worked from a London studio on Orange Street. In 1939 he joined fellow photographers Walter Bird and Horace Roye to form Photo Centre Ltd., producing joint books such as Eves Without Leaves and supplying images to magazines including Men Only and Lilliput. Everard was a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography, and published numerous photo books—among them Adam’s Fifth Rib, Artist’s Model, and Model in Movement—which helped define mid-century British nude photography.
