Description from the seller
Sunflowers II – Jonathan Wain
A high-energy fusion of traditional still life and urban contemporary technique.
In Sunflowers II, Jonathan Wain delivers a masterclass in texture and contrast. By blending the classic medium of acrylic with the raw, modern application of spray paint, Wain transforms a familiar floral subject into a gritty yet beautiful contemporary statement.
The work is defined by its layered, multi-media approach:
Impasto Acrylics: The sunflower heads are rendered in thick, confident acrylic strokes. The petals explode with vibrant yellows and oranges, while the centres use deep greens and blacks to create a sense of three-dimensional depth.
Spray Paint Elements: The vase is defined by a soft, white spray-paint "glow," creating a dreamlike, ethereal quality that contrasts sharply with the heavy brushwork of the flowers. Subtle spray textures also drift into the background, adding an atmospheric, industrial feel to the neutral grey space.
Composition: The interplay between the organic forms of the greenery and the hazy, stencil-style lines of the vessel creates a tension that feels both spontaneous and carefully considered.
Year: 2026
Medium: Professional Acrylic on Paper (Varnished)
Total Size: 48 x 63 cm (includes an additional 1 cm border for easy framing)
Finish: Coated with a professional-grade acrylic varnish to protect the surface from UV rays and dust while enhancing the pigment saturation.

Jonathan Wain is an emerging contemporary painter whose work sits at the intersection of Neo-Expressionism and post-graffiti art. Currently based in Spain, Wain has developed a distinctive visual language that blends the raw energy of the street with the technical depth of classical subjects.
Wain’s technical foundation is rooted in formal study, having earned a BA (Hons) in Sculpture from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in 1996. This sculptural training remains a cornerstone of his painting style, visible in the physical presence and "carved" feel of his brushwork.
Today, Wain’s works are held in private collections internationally, appealing to collectors who value the evolution of contemporary mixed media and the bold spirit of Neo-Expressionism.
