Description from the seller
This oil painting on panel is by Albert Herkelman, a pseudonym of Leonardus A.J. Scholte, born on 11 April 1945 in Schiedam. After his studies, Leo Scholte (also known as Albert Herkelman) developed into a realist painter, though it did not give him much satisfaction. Realism was no longer self-evident by then, because after 1900 various art movements followed each other at a rapid pace, such as Fauvism and Cubism. Only around 1980 did he take up painting again. He had to redevelop his skill and precision, now older and wiser. During that period he chose Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803–1862) as his great exemplar, because of his outstanding technique and the romantic atmosphere that appealed to him. This painting is a result of that renewed dedication and inspiration. Dimensions: 24 x 39 cm Dimensions with frame: 44 x 59 cm Viewings of the lot are always possible. All contact information can be found on our own website. Art Dumay has an in-house framing workshop with almost 100 years of experience.
