Description
This is an original screenprint by the internationally recognized Japanese artist Ay-O (b. 1931), widely known as the "Rainbow Artist." He is a key figure in postwar Japanese contemporary art and an active participant in the international avant-garde movement Fluxus.
Ay-O developed his distinctive "Rainbow" style, using the full visible spectrum to reinterpret natural forms, animals, and traditional Japanese motifs, including influences from Ukiyo-e.
Created in 1976, this work features a vibrant, multi-layered floral composition. It is produced through a complex silkscreen process involving numerous color layers, demonstrating the artist’s signature approach to gradation and optical effect.
This piece is a certified original, accompanied by a period biography sheet attached to the reverse. It was published by Nantenshi Gallery, a prominent Tokyo gallery known for promoting contemporary Japanese artists internationally during the 1970s.
