About
Lothar Quinte (1923–2000) was a German painter and graphic artist and is considered one of the leading figures of concrete art and Op Art in Germany. His work is characterized by a consistent engagement with color, form, rhythm, and visual perception. After initially figurative works, Quinte developed from the 1950s a strictly abstract visual language that made him internationally known.
Particularly his Op Art pictures are characterized by precise geometric structures, modular color systems, and optical movement effects. With serial compositions, color gradients, and dynamic repetitions, Quinte created visual oscillations that actively involve the viewer in perception. His works move at the interface of painting, graphic art, and visual research.
Lothar Quinte’s works have been shown in numerous museums, international exhibitions and collections and are regarded as an important contribution to the development of European Op Art and constructivist-concrete art of the 20th century.
