Rare complete deluxe edition of this important illustration series to Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
This is one of only 65 roman-numbered copies on van Gelder handmade paper, here the especially low number III.
According to the printer’s note, this copy was produced for the art collector Eduard Merzinger (name-identified provenance).
Extent of the portfolio:
1 lithographic title page (black/white)
14 color plates after watercolors by Max Slevogt
all sheets individually mounted with mats
original slipcase (case)
The works show Slevogt’s characteristic, expressive, and vividly colored interpretation of the operatic scenes and are among the artist’s most important illustration cycles.
Condition:
Good age-appropriate overall condition.
Light, even edge toning in the area of the mats; the images themselves mostly fresh and color-rich. No cracks or losses visible in the images. The case shows usual signs of use.
Complete copies of this deluxe edition are rarely offered on the market.
