A Little Piece of History
José Luis Campos, Spanish Visual Artist. Born in 1948 in Galicia. Graduate of the Pan American Institute of Art in 1974 (Buenos Aires-Argentina). Dedicated to painting from a very early age. However, only in 2020 did he begin venturing into sculpture under the hand of the renowned Malaga sculptor Virgilio Rodríguez. He developed techniques and concepts with recyclable materials in most of his works, recreating an atmosphere that captivates by the concept developed, in a constant search to find the balance between what is real and what is imaginable. He often depicts in his works a peaceful line with certain details.
In his paintings he pays great attention to a reduced palette to depict a uniform work with few details. A lover of pre-Columbian South American cultures, particularly Peru, he has developed there a mixed Indigenist/Abstract technique that today enjoys wide acceptance among collectors. His works, in general, have been acquired by collectors in several countries such as: USA, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Slovakia, Finland, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, Ireland, Austria, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, England, China. He also has more than 25 solo and group exhibitions internationally, in addition to honors, nominations, prizes and recognitions, art books, press and television. For example, the book “Historias de Pintores” by the renowned Málaga-born writer Joaquín Palmerola, the art book Itaca published in Soria, Spain, contemporary art 2003 Sevilla Art Fair, among others. José Luis Campos signs his paintings by hand on the front and back of the work, and also provides a certificate of authenticity to the buyer. It is almost a challenge to describe this multifaceted artist, as he prefers spectators to form their own conclusions about his work. For Campos, a work is a struggle between the artist and the canvas; you know where it begins, but never where it ends.
