A great Dutch master artist who unfortunately died at only 31. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises about 150 paintings, mostly on small formats, around 100 drawings and over 40 sheets of graphics, mainly etchings and woodcuts.
Jan Mankes entered art history as “Holland’s most tranquil painter.” He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making around his artistry.
