Description from the seller

Václav Jirásek (1965) - Angel II

1993, original author's gelatine silver print from a limited series of 6 pieces (numbered 6/6), format 48 x 38 cm, on the back marked with author's stamp and author's signature.
Provenance: Andrew Smith Gallery, USA. An excellent collectible opportunity.

Václav Jirásek (B. 1965) was until 1994 a member of the retro romantic brotherhood, a group of Czech neo-romantic painters, musicians and photographers. After that he went solo as a documentary photographer, still inspired by the concepts of romanticism.
Is originally a trained painter (he graduated from Prague’s School of Art – AVU); however, at the end of the 1980s he taught himself photography and began to focus on that discipline. References to painting can be found in his works in the form of certain (exaggerated) classicising, often taken to the extreme of slight bizarreness. In 1989 he acted as a founding member of the Brotherhood (Bratrstvo) group, which operated until 1993.
