Description from the seller
Gianluigi Golfetto: Extroflessions of Light (2024)
Description of the Work
In this wall-mounted sculpture from 2024, Gianluigi Golfetto temporarily abandons his canvas and burlap experimentation to confront directly the noble rigidity of brass. The piece presents itself as a metallic sheet that seems to have lost its solid nature to become fabric, shaped by an invisible force that alters its flatness.
The surface is not merely folded, but "lived": the ripples and veins that traverse the plate create a plastic dynamism reminiscent of a drapery moved by the wind or the irregularities of a natural element.
Material and Conceptual Analysis
Faithful to his exploration of material transformations, Golfetto works brass to highlight its reflective and tonal properties.
* Light as Tool: It is not just an object to be observed, but a device that captures the surrounding environment. Depending on the viewing point, the light glides over the golden crests and sinks into the shadows of the concavities, altering the perception of volume.
* Contrast between Order and Chaos: The square geometry of the outer perimeter functions as a rational frame for an interior dominated by an informal and free energy. The folds, though appearing casual, reveal a studied compositional balance characteristic of the artist's hand.
* Beyond Metal: As already occurred with resins and oxides in his previous works, here Golfetto pushes the limit of the support. Brass ceases to be an industrial barrier and becomes an organic surface, almost a metallic skin bearing the marks of inner tension.
Critical Notes
The work fits perfectly into Golfetto's trajectory as an evolution of his inquiry into the "cracks" and the "imperfections" of reality. If in the burlap works the artist sought oxidation and corrosion, in this 2024 brass sculpture he celebrates resilience and radiance, demonstrating technical maturity capable of bending the hardness of metal to the delicacy of a visual emotion.
> "An artwork that does not stand still, but constantly dialogues with space, redefining the concept of two-dimensional sculpture through a play of reflections and distortions."
Work ready to be hung. Gianluigi Golfetto, professional artist from the province of Treviso, featured in many private and public collections.
