La contessa, an oil painting on panel in Rococo style by Italian school, dating to 1900–1910, framed, 16 × 12 cm, unsigned.
Description from the seller
Female Portrait – Oil on panel with a rococo-style frame, Italian school of the early twentieth century
Elegant female portrait rendered in oil on panel, depicting a young woman half-length with gaze turned to the side and a delicate contemplative expression. The face, luminous and in rosy tones, emerges gracefully from a neutral gray-blue background that enhances the intensity of the gaze and the softness of the skin.
Particularly refined is the rendering of the wide white vaporous collar, treated with impasto brushstrokes that confer to the work an impressionist flavor and a pleasant painterly liveliness. The dark, compact hairstyle recalls bourgeois portraiture of the late nineteenth – early twentieth century.
The work is set in a rich ornamental frame in gilded metal or decorative alloy, of Baroque/Rococo taste, probably Italian production of the twentieth century, with the mark on the back “Made in Italy” and “Déposé”, an element that confirms its decorative manufacture succeeding the painting.
The painting appears unsigned, but shows a confident hand and a good execution quality, attributable to the Italian figurative school, probably Neapolitan area.
Conditions: good general condition with normal signs of time; light surface abrasions and small craquelure compatible with the age. Frame well preserved with slight wear and coherent patina.
