Description from the seller
Antonio Tamburro
Antonio Tamburro is an Italian artist famous worldwide. His artworks are exhibited in prestigious international art galleries and private collections. In recent years he has held important exhibitions in Paris, Toulouse, London, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, St. Moritz, Milan, and Rome.
In 2008 he was commissioned to paint the portrait of Pope Benedict XVI, which was exhibited at the Benedetto XVI International Library in St. Peter’s, Rome. In 2009 he staged an anthological exhibition at Palazzo Venezia in Rome: “The Sense of Time,” featuring a survey of paintings spanning from 1980 to 2009. In 2012 he held the public show “ColorAction” together with the great designer, sculptor and international architect Gaetano Pesce, at the Centro Altinate San Gaetano in Padua. In 2012, on the occasion of the XXX Olympic Games in London, he exhibited at the exhibition “Tradition and Innovation – Italian Olympic Spirit” at Casa Italia CONI, the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre Westminster in London.
In this impressive 100x70 cm board, Antonio Tamburro reaffirms his standing as a master of contemporary figurativism. The work captures the essence of movement, transforming a daily moment into a chromatic explosion of rare intensity.
The wooden support provides a rigid material base that underscores the speed of the artist’s gesture: the brushstrokes are decisive, almost “graffito-like,” able to render tangible the frenetic atmosphere of city life or the gathered intimacy of an interior. The choice of acrylic allows for a layering of glazes and strong contrasts that give the painting a vibrant, almost electric luminosity.
Critical Analysis
The work perfectly embodies Tamburro’s poetics: the subject (whether a solitary figure, a café, or a crowded street) seems to dissolve into color, suggesting a reality in constant becoming. It is not merely a representation of a scene, but the capture of a fleeting emotion. The verticality/horizontality of the 100x70 format lends a scenographic breath that dominates the environment, making it a central piece for any contemporary art collection.
Why invest in this work?
• Iconic scale: The format is among the most sought-after on the market for its balance between visual impact and ease of placement.
• Distinctive style: Tamburro is an artist with a well-established market, known for his ability to fuse Italian painting tradition with a modern, internationally “pop” sensibility.
• Desired support: Acrylic on wood guarantees a denser color payoff and excellent durability compared to traditional canvas.
"Tamburro’s painting is not looked at, it is traversed. It is a visual rhythm that never stops."
