"Occursum" ,is a latin term, literally meaning "meeting," and indicates an active, sought-after movement. Not a chance encounter, but two forces moving toward each other until they touch.
In the work, occursum is the living threshold where different directions come into contact: like two shores seeking each other.
From right and left thousands of strips of paper overlapping millimeter by millimeter.
More than 1000 pieces advance in opposite directions, brushing against each other layer by layer.
In the center, they meet. They touch.
The inspiration comes from those rare places on the planet where two seas gaze at each other but don't immediately mix. Where the foam marks the living boundary between different currents.
"Occursum" is this boundary: the exact point where the "other" ceases to be distant and becomes contact.
Each strip is cut and placed by hand. Millimeter by millimeter, the tension builds towards the center of the painting, where the light plays with the reliefs and reveals the friction, the vibration, the stillness that follows the impact.
It is a work on distance and threshold: what happens when two forces, two histories, two identities truly meet?
"Occursum" can be the encounter with the other, with the unknown, with a part of oneself.
It can be gentle or explosive, but it is always an action, never static, always an act.
The work will be shipped as shown in photo ( not framed) and packaged in custom-made packaging with authenticity Certificate.
Samantha Bonanno is a paper artist whose research focuses on the transformation of paper into modular forms that tell stories of space, meaning and emotions. Each work is born from a concept, a deep reflection on a word or a phrase, as a starting point for a creative journey. Through cuts, folds and manual assembly, she makes the invisible tangible, she tries to bring to consciousness concepts that are often forgotten, creating compositions that are aesthetically powerful and emotionally engaging. Her art is a way of exploring the infinite hidden meaning of even the simplest things, stimulating reflections and thoughts that can deeply resonate with those who observe her works.
"My artistic journey and passion for paper and words are rooted in a natural and profound intuition. I’m a “researcher of meaning*, an artist who explores words and their potential through paper, with the purpose to inspiring thoughts and emotions in viewers."
