Description from the seller

Paul Seguin-Bertault was born in 1869 in Château-Renault (Indre-et-Loire) and died in 1964. He trained academically under the masters Alexandre Cabanel and Gustave Moreau. He then spent four years, from 1894 to 1898, in the United States, before exhibiting his works at the Salon des Indépendants in 1909. His work includes designs for tapestries and numerous etchings. He created an album of ten stamps titled Danse à l'opéra.

The work in question depicts characters behind the scenes and on the stage of a theater, with a ballet dancer in the foreground preparing to stage Faust. The adaptation of Goethe's classic was composed by Charles Gounod, while the French libretto was completed by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, with the first performance of the opera taking place in 1859. In the lower right corner, the work bears the artist's signature with the inscription "Barbier Faust".

Measurements: (with mat) 32.5 cm height x 24 cm width; (including frame) 35 cm height x 27 cm width
