Description from the seller
Ruud Cornelisse (born 1940) is a post-Cobra painter and draftsman. He studied at the Rietveld Academie and the Institute for Art and Crafts Education in Amsterdam, where he studied under Willem (Wim) Strijbosch. His work is characterized by a typical post-Cobra idiom, with a strong emphasis on expression and a lightly surreal visual language.
In addition to his oil and acrylic paintings, Cornelisse has also been intensely involved with various graphic techniques, such as etching, wood and copper engravings, and linocuts. In his work, dialogue often takes center stage as a theme. He lived for years at the ruin of Brederode in Santpoort, where he organized numerous cultural events, also aimed at meeting and exchange. Additionally, he was active as a set builder for the theater company Hauser Orkater.
Cornelisse was a member of artists’ associations such as X65 in Haarlem and Kunst Zij Ons Doel, and is mentioned in various publications. His powerful and layered work leaves a lasting impression and invites the viewer to deepen and interpret it personally.
