DESCRIPTION:
Work created in 2017, at the heart of the 2016–2017 period, today almost entirely integrated into private collections. The pieces still available from this phase are now rare.
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the painterly universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:
"There is a great deal of poetry in this painting, as in all of the artist’s works. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure child’s chant... But the most astonishing thing that manifests in these canvases is a communicative tenderness toward the emotional states of the human being."
This painting is built around a vast matte blue field that frames a denser, almost explosive interior scene. Inside, bold greens, bright reds, luminous yellows, and swift gestures are layered. A strongly asserted black line traverses the surface like a free sign, at the boundary between figure and abstraction.
The whole creates an immediate tension between restraint and overflow.
The contrast between the calm blue flatness and the vibrant color figure gives the work a strong presence in space. Hung on the wall, it draws the eye with its clear structure, then holds attention with the richness of its details and its material.
The incisions in the still-fresh paint, the superpositions, and the graphic rhythms enhance the depth and vitality of the surface. Nothing is decorative: everything participates in a direct and assumed energy.
This canvas ranks among the most open and dynamic works of this period. A piece that combines solid construction with gestural freedom, and that immediately asserts itself by its visual power.
Very good state of conservation.
The sides being painted, the work can be hung as is, without framing.
