Biography:
Walter Piacesi was born in Ascoli Piceno in 1929. Painter, engraver, sculptor, and ceramicist, after a long period in Ancona he moved to Urbino in 1948 to attend the State Institute of Art for book decoration, where he would later become head of the Engraving Chair until 1975, the year he was transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence to occupy the Chair of Printing Techniques. He participated in many official exhibitions, including the IV National Exhibition of Drawing and Engraving in Reggio Emilia (1953), the VIII Rome Quadriennale, the Exhibition of Italian Engraving in Paris, Krakow, Poznan and Dublin, the Biella Prize for engraving in 1964, and various reviews of Italian Engravers, of which he was a member.
Throughout his career, the artist etched over two hundred plates and etchings, illustrating numerous literary works and exhibiting in some of Italy’s most important art galleries (such as Ghelfi in Verona and the Piero Della Francesca Gallery in Arezzo), as well as in prestigious public spaces. His reputation as an outstanding engraver never eclipsed his intense and high-quality painting activity, which is closely linked to his engraving and also of the highest level. Piacesi loved portraying modern life in all its dimensions, from human beings to objects, sometimes with a sharp and satirical style. Among the subjects he most loves is the woman, exalted and described as a polyhedral being. The artist is able to depict delicate situations of discomfort and everyday life sadness. His work has earned wide acclaim not only from critics but also from writers and poets. He passed away in Fermignano in 2022.”} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }
